Supervision sessions

Dr Peter Bray is a New Zealand Association of Counselling approved supervisor who provides private supervision sessions to registered counsellors, psychotherapists, social workers and other helping professionals.

  • Based on the assumption that to be effective in the lives of their clients, professional helpers need to take time to look after themselves, supervision provides an invaluable space in which to reflect on professional and personal experiences.

  • As a required activity for most registered professional helpers, regular supervision not only ensures quality and safety in their practice but supports ongoing professional learning and development.

  • By accounting for the uniqueness of the individual and their level of training and professional experience, and by understanding their experiences, strengths and practice contexts, person-centred supervision is a collaborative and dynamic model that places the wellbeing of the client at centre of the process.

  • Peter has been a full member and registered with the New Zealand Association of Counsellors since 2001

  • Supervision may be accessed on a regular basis (such as fortnightly or monthly) or on an ‘as needed’ basis.

Peter has edited eight books and published a number of chapters and journal articles and that sketch the key areas of his broad professional research interests. These include work on trauma, grief and loss, counselling practice and adolescents, the therapeutic relationship, the value of spiritual experience in post-traumatic growth processes, and more recently the notion that professional ‘wounded healers’ such as counsellors and social workers, might also be viewed as ‘heroic’ healers.
